Successful ESG ratings through targeted data preparation

ESG ratings assess a company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance. They make ESG performance comparable, measurable and transparent to external stakeholders such as investors, business partners, banks or regulators.

A strong rating builds trust, strengthens market position and facilitates access to capital. At the same time, it provides guidance within the regulatory landscape: Many ratings reflect requirements such as the CSRD, OR 964 or the Supply Chain Act and support their practical implementation. Particularly in international supply chains, partners and customers increasingly expect such information.

A good rating is based on a clear sustainability strategy with concrete goals and measures, supported by measurable data such as carbon footprints, relevant KPIs and internal policies. Structured preparation of this information—in line with the specific requirements of the rating system—is also key.

Progress is also important: Many ESG ratings assess not only current performance, but also year-on-year development.

Our process - in three steps

1. Initial Assessment & Goal Setting

We begin by working with you to assess which ESG ratings are right for your company —depending on your industry, target audience and strategic objectives. Do you want to create transparency, enable benchmarking or meet customer expectations? We work with you to define your objectives, assess the effort required and determine which rating systems (e.g. CDP, EcoVadis, ESG2Go) make the most sense. The result: a clear roadmap with priorities, timelines and next steps.

2. Data Analysis & Gap Closure

Next, we review your existing ESG data— from carbon emissions and energy use to labour conditions, supply chain information and governance structures. Through a structured gap analysis, we identify missing data, highlight opportunities for improvement and pinpoint content that will strengthen your rating. This provides a solid foundation for the next phase.

3. Preparation, Submission & Optimization

We help you prepare your ESG data in a structured way – clear, consistent and rating-oriented. We draft responses that are both strategic and compliant, revise or develop missing documents, and support you throughout the submission process – whether for CDP, EcoVadis or ESG2Go. Once the rating is received, we analyse the results with you and develop concrete recommendations to further improve your ESG performance.

FAQs

While ESG ratings are not a legal substitute for formal reporting requirements, they are an effective way to prepare systematically. Ratings such as CDP or EcoVadis require structured disclosure of relevant sustainability data – similar to what is expected under CSRD, OR 964 or the Supply Chain Act. They help to create transparency at an early stage, identify gaps and facilitate the integration of these findings into legally required sustainability reports.
